The Rangitoto Island Historic Conservation Trust's objective is to find ways to retain the bach communities much as they exist now and make them available for public use. The Trust is working alongside the Department of Conservation, to restore, preserve and maintain the communities, establish a museum and provide interpretational material. The Trust is also documenting the Bach settlements including the social history to provide a research archive. The collection includes documents, photos, scrapbooks and other memorabilia. Oral histories form an important part of the collection, currently there are over fifty oral histories and three hundred photos.
