BACH 52 Testimonials
Weekend Escape
We had a fabulous time at Bach 52. It was like stepping back in time and we enjoyed the experience. The accessibility to the wharf was great and meant we were able to bring a little extra. We had a wonderful time exploring the island and listening to kiwi at night. Thank you so much.

Slice of paradise
Anyone who has grown up going to little NZ baches will love the Rangitoto heritage baches. They are old-school (outside toilet and shower) but have everything, and you feel like you’ve been transported to a different era where you play cards, go for walks and swim. We loved our stay.

Great Authentic Bach
Great bach and great base for exploring the island. Loved the cupboard turned into a museum.

Authentic Kiwi Bach Experience
“This is a beautiful spot, close to the wharf and ferry transport but set back in the bush. Has a very authentic Kiwi Bach vibe with the benefit of solar lighting and USB to charge devices (plus good 4g coverage). Very friendly contact from property manager. Definitely take insect repellent for mosquitoes. Having so many Tieke (Saddlebacks) to see and hear was a delight.”

What an experience – not to be missed!
The feeling of being dropped off on the iconic Rangitoto island and watching the water taxi sailing away was so exciting. The lovely Quincy and Steph were there to help us with check in, and throughout the stay, with such useful tips and stories of the island. We loved seeing the takahe and Saddlebacks. Fishing from the wharf. Walk around the island baches and across to shipwreck bay. The accommodation was exactly as expected. Magical. The baches are entirely off grid, but with some of the creature comforts of home (solar light in each room, solar powered chilly bin, indoor cooking jobs, and running cold water. The decor is just too lovely – all historic and with furniture to match. We were there for three nights in a windy and cold September but found the accommodation to be lovely and snug.

BACH 78 Testimonials
Islington Bay Bach Cuteness
Very efficient and helpful booking process and the bach was adorable and right on the water/opposite the wharf. The kids loved swimming off our slipway and the wharf. A peaceful holiday and some great walks. The only downside was the walk to the Rangitoto/ferry wharf (1.5hours), which was easily manageable (mostly flat), but an effort with heavy backpacks.

A great day
An absolutely brilliant experience. Susan is lovely to deal with, and really helpful. And Quincy was brilliant when we arrived – very welcoming and made our day even more wonderful.

AMAZING!!!
Such a cool spot! Awesome days fishing then anchored up the boat in front of the bach. Ocean views in the morning as you wake up. It was great to be able to explore Rangitoto.

My son’s 5th birthday!
My son loved volcanoes! So I booked this trip and this batch was perfect! One day of rain & a day of sunshine. It’s just beautiful. A wonderful kiwi batch quaint & charming. No frills and just the way we love it! Walk to summit was a bit further away but my 5 yr old walked there and back no qualms. Wonderful coastal tracks & we loved reading the history. We will most definitely be back! Loved meeting the rangers too! Easiest to take Auckland Sea Shuttle if you can. Can’t thank Susan enough for accommodating our change of date! Memories for a lifetime! Cheers!

Little patch of paradise close to home
Had a wonderful weekend with family at Bach 78. Perfect spot for relaxation, birdlife, sea swimming, great base for walking – it’s worthwhile getting up early to enjoy the sunrise from Motutapu, and it’s just as magical to take it easy.

Too short
A wonderful overnight stay at bach 78. Fantastic location, we were incredibly lucky with the weather, fish jumping outside the house, swimming off the wharf in May, stargazing at night and a great short hike there and back from the ferry – magic!!

Two Nights on Rangitoto
Property has been well restored. Loved the selection of books to read to learn more about the history of the island. Wonderful friendly people that live and work/volunteer on Motutapu and for the Rangitoto Historic Trust. Great recommendation of going to the summit for sunset. Everything you need for a simple Bach life. Great location for exploring the east side of Rangitoto and Motutapu in a relaxed way over a day and a half. Super spacious Bach which is ideal for large groups.

Comfortable off-grid retreat
1930s bach in great condition with plenty of space for the family. The kids loved exploring the bush, the beach and kayaking at Islington Bay. Thank you to Quincy and Steph for hosting us. Wished I could have stayed longer.

Fantastic experience!
Our family absolutely loved this no frills island escape … the whole experience, from the ferry trip, to the walk to the bach and the feel of the bach itself. It is beautifully maintained and felt like stepping back in time with the furnishings, crockery etc all in keeping with its era. The Trust hosts were brilliant to deal with and obviously passionate about sharing and looking after this wonderful piece of history. We hope to return one day 😊.

Wonderful Experience
Magical family weekend destination, with lovely hosts, beautiful birdsong and so much tranquillity. The extra blankets and hot water bottles were a great help on a chilly winter weekend, and the property has possibly the cleanest long drop we’ve ever experienced. We’ll be back for sure.

Awesome
We rented both baches in Islington Bay. It is accurately described, and very cute. Our group had an awesome weekend. If you have a lot of gear, or kids who don’t like to walk 90 min – 2hrs carrying a pack, look into Auckland Sea Shuttles to take you direct to Islington Bay. Well worth it. Caretakers Steph and Quincy were lovely and Susan handled our booking perfectly. Thanks so much!
